AI adoption is accelerating across government, creating a critical need to ensure it is governed responsibly, delivers measurable value, and remains aligned with public-sector priorities. This practical workshop will help government leaders move from fragmented AI initiatives toward a more structured approach to AI governance, adoption, and operational management.
Participants will learn how ISO/IEC 38500’s six governance principles can strengthen AI oversight, accountability, and risk management while navigating the evolving AI regulatory landscape in the public sector. Building on this foundation, we will introduce ITIL® (Version 5) practices, including the Service Value System, Service Value Chain, and 6C Model, to help agencies align AI initiatives with organizational value and support governance, procurement, and implementation decisions. Finally, we will examine how AI is being integrated into IT operations and how ITIL practices can support governance, service management, and responsible adoption.
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how to:
• Strengthen AI governance, oversight, and accountability
• Apply established governance principles to AI decision-making
• Identify and structure AI adoption across the organization
• Connect AI investments and procurement decisions to measurable value
• Manage AI-related risks while enabling responsible innovation
• Prepare IT service management and operations for an increasingly AI-enabled government environment
